Frequently Asked
What does a doula actually do?
A doula provides emotional, physical, and informational support before, during, and after birth. I don’t replace your partner or provider – I’m here to support you and your team, helping you feel confident, calm, and cared for every step of the way.
Do you replace my partner?
Not at all! I support both you and your partner. I help your partner feel more confident and involved by offering guidance, reassurance, and breaks when needed. We’re a team.
Do doulas do medical tasks?
Nope. Doulas don’t do anything clinical – we don’t check dilation, monitor baby, or give medical advice. I support you emotionally and physically, and help you navigate your options.
When should I hire a doula?
The sooner the better! Many families hire a doula in the second trimester so we have time to build trust, prep for your birth, and answer all your questions. But if you’re later in pregnancy, don’t worry – there’s still time to connect!
What kind of births do you support?
All kinds! I support hospital births, home births, birth center deliveries, medicated or unmedicated, VBACs, planned cesareans – you name it. I’m here for your birth, however it unfolds.
Simple Birth Tips
Relax
Throughout pregnancy, practice noticing your body and where you hold your stress and tension. When you notice feeling tense, actively relax those parts of your body by taking deep, slow breaths. Be mindful. And if you can’t figure out where in your body your stress is settling, relax your shoulders, jaw and hands! It’ll make all the difference during labor.
Birth Affirmations
Birth is as much a mental journey as it is a physical one. Affimations are simple, positive statements that help shift your mindset, calm fears, and remind you of your strength. Repeating affirmations during pregnancy and labor can create a sense of grounding, boost confidence, and keep you focused on the incredible work your body is doing.
Trust Your Body
Pregnancy and birth are natural processes, and your body was beautifully designed to navigate them. Trusting your body means leaning into its wisdom, listening to its cues, and honoring the incredible work it’s capable of doing. When you release fear and embrace trust, you open space for confidence, calm, and empowerment.
